This event will give high school students the opportunity to hear about real workforce problems and solutions from working professionals. The small group sizes will allow time for the students to interact directly with the presenters. The students will also be able to solve ethical dilemmas with fellow high school students from all over Western Pennsylvania. You will find an agenda for the day within the registration link.

PA School for Excellence in the Ag Sciences (PSEAS) is a free four-week summer residential enrichment program of study in which the students take core courses related to agriculture and environmental science.
Students will participate in a hands-on laboratory course related to each core course. Students will have the opportunity to participate in field trips, special events and lecture series.
In addition, the students will participate in the Pennsylvania Youth Institute, a collaboration with the World Food Prize Foundation. Upon completing this experience the participants will be recognized as Borlaug Scholars with an opportunity of an USDA internship while attending college, in addition, the prospect to be selected to participate in the Global Youth Institute with the World Food Prize Foundation.
A major goal of the program is to encourage young talent to pursue careers in these areas, thereby fostering global competence in the fields of agricultural sciences, including the scientific and professional opportunities available to them in the food, agriculture, and natural resource sciences.
When: July 7, 2019 - August 2, 2019

Who may apply:

• Applicants must demonstrate excellence in academic achievement, as evidenced by school transcript and standardized test scores.
• Applicants must demonstrate sustained interest and involvement in environmental/agriculture science, both in and out of the classroom, as evidenced by their resume, essays and letters of recommendation.
• 40 participants will be chosen from the pool of qualified applicants
• Deadline February 22, 2019.
Cost and commitment:
Successful applicants will receive a full scholarship to attend PSEAS. The scholarship includes the cost of housing, meals, and all instructional materials. Families are responsible for providing transportation to and from the program, and for providing personal items and spending money. Students must commit to being in residence on the Penn State University Park campus for the duration of the program. Trips home during the program are not permitted.

S.C.O.P.E. is a four week academic intensive program for high school sophomores from multicultural backgrounds interested in careers in teaching, counseling, special education, rehabilitation, or educational administration. During the four-week program students will:
S.C.O.P.E. underlines Penn State’s College of Education commitment toward the reduction of inter-group disparities and our efforts to satisfy the nation’s need for a diversified pool of education professionals and is committed to implementing appropriate outreach and early intervention practices. S.C.O.P.E. aims to promote and increase the recruitment, participation and success rates of underrepresented students in higher education and more specifically in the Education field.
The summer experience is organized around five main goals:
